Network Use

Mission Statement

Each institution of the University of Wisconsin System shares in the mission of the System which is to develop human resources, to discover and disseminate knowledge, to extend knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its campuses, and to serve and stimulate society by developing in students heightened intellectual, cultural, and humane sensitivities, scientific, professional, and technological expertise; and a sense of value and purpose. Inherent in this mission are methods of instruction, research, extended education, and public service designed to educate people and improve the human condition. Basic to every purpose of the System is the search for truth. In support of the University's mission of teaching, research, and public service, the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater provides computing, networking, and information resources to the campus community of students, faculty, and staff.

Scope

The scope of this policy covers the university network infrastructure, peripherals connected to the infrastructure, and all services provided through the use of the network infrastructure or the peripherals. The university network infrastructure, its peripherals and the services it supports are used for the business of the university, including teaching, research, student and administrative services.

Foundation / Philosophy Statement

Policies of electronic communication should follow the policies and be patterned after the rules of physical communication.

Statement of Policy and Procedures

Policy represents a set of guiding principles governed by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the UW-System and guided by other appropriate professional organizations. Procedure is a practical implementation of a policy developed by the Information Technology Services (ITS), in support of 欧洲杯投注's mission.

Appropriate and Reasonable Use

Appropriate and responsible use of the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater computing and networking facilities is defined as use that is consistent with the teaching, learning, research and administrative objectives of the University. Appropriate use includes instruction, independent study, research, communications, official work of 欧洲杯投注 units, recognized student and campus organizations and agencies of the University.

University of Wisconsin- Whitewater Network is a shared resource, therefore access to networks and computer systems owned or operated by 欧洲杯投注 requires certain user responsibilities and obligations and is subject to the University policies and local, state, and federal laws. Appropriate use should always be legal and ethical, reflect academic honesty, show consideration and restraint in the consumption of shared resources, respect intellectual property, rights to privacy and to freedom from intimidation and harassment.

ITS Responsibilities

ITS has a responsibility to protect the functional integrity of the University's technology environment. To that end ITS has the responsibility to monitor the use of electronic resources, but not the content of the communication, documents or data.

Allegations concerning the misuse of 欧洲杯投注 electronic resources will be addressed according to Faculty/ Staff/ Student rules of conduct, with the involvement of appropriate authorities.
